This year, we were excited to welcome back Peta Tilse to present the annual Commemoration Day address.
At Somerville, Peta was in the 1990 cohort as Art Convenor, and Rowing Captain which saw Somerville win the inaugural Head of the River. She must have listened during her years with Mr Honeywill, as she has written and illustrated a kids’ book ‘Benny the Binchicken’ - a humorous story about Benny the Ibis which has a subtle anti bullying message and is inspired by being the mother of three boys.
Peta has had an extensive career in financial markets including roles on Treasury trading floors, managing billions of dollars of superannuation money as a Fund Manager, stockbroker, a Founder of financial compliance technology firm Sophisticated Access and co-founding the Australian charity platform The Impact Suite. She won Fintech Business Awards two years in a row, and won the Westpac Business of Tomorrow for The Impact Suite.
Peta’s community interests have her serving the Financial Services Institute of Australasia’s Financial Advice & Services Council, and as a Director of the Somerville House Foundation.
Peta speaks regularly on the ABC, demystifying financial markets and important investment concepts. The Somerville community were honoured to hear from our very own finance industry trailblazer and she no doubt served as a source of inspiration for many of the young women present at the assembly.
