Vidya Makan (2011) joins the cast of Hamilton in Sydney

A composer, lyricist, actor, singer and self-proclaimed blatant over-sharer, Vidya Makan (2011) is making her school girls dreams come true. After giving up the football (soccer) field with dreams of one day becoming a Matilda, Vidya was inspired at 14 after playing flower girl number 3 in the Somerville House production of My Fair Lady to follow a career in showbiz.

Vidya is most well known for originating the role of Catherine Parr in the Australian Tour of SIX. She also just been cast as Eliza Hamilton in the upcoming Australian production of Hamilton in the highly anticipated return season of the Tony, Grammy, Olivier and Pulitzer Prize-winning musical by Lin-Manuel Miranda. Hamilton returns to the Sydney Lyric Theatre in July 2024 and tickets can be purchased here.

Having learnt to read music at the age of three (before she was able to read English) she is also a cellist and highly skilled pianist. Vidya is a proud graduate of the Bachelor of Musical Theatre program at the Queensland Conservatorium, Griffith University, class of 2015. 

Vidya has performed extensively throughout Australia since her professional debut in 2016. Alongside her work on commercial and independent stages, she has also performed at Sydney Mardi Gras, Melbourne Comedy Festival, Melbourne Cabaret Festival and Melbourne Fringe Festival with her original work. In 2023 she was a featured performer at Junior Theatre Festival Australia and featured on Channel 10’s Have You Been Paying Attention as a guest quiz master.
