Teacher Christina Wilson (43 years of service to Somerville House)

Published on July 26, 2022

The OGA recently was made aware of some additional areas of speciality in addition to being a French Teacher for Christina Wilson who served at Somerville House for 43 years. We thank the Jessie Andrews archives who kindly provided the following information.  What a fabulous contribution to the Somerville House community.

Christina joined Somerville House in 1924 and taught Latin, Greek, French and Ancient History. In 1929 Miss Wilson became part-time Secretary to the Principal’s so that she could continue her studies in Languages. Christina also had a particular love of the Arts and of the Theatre, "reflected in her willingness to sponsor Drama and Play Reading groups during the school's weekly Activity time, in her willinnees to encourage and advise young actresses and in her care of the properties and costumes which contribute so much to the atmosphere and the colour of every stage production." (Somerville House School Magazine, 1966; 17) See full article attached.

Christina became full-time Secretary  and in 1951 she stepped down from the Secretarial role to return to teaching completing her time at Somerville House in 1966.

We are thankful for Christina Wilson's incredible devotion to Somerville House and pleased to feature her on our OGA Teachers and Staff of Honour list.
