We were delighted to catch up recently with Kendall on her reflections of her time at Somerville and life lessons.
"I think what I liked most about Somerville was the variety of experiences it gave me: academic, cultural, sporting, linguistic and leadership opportunities. I suppose some would say I've lived a non-conventional life - a resident of 5 different countries as an adult and I've worked over 10 different jobs (I've lost count actually! across multiple industries globally. I'm someone who has thrived on variety."
"At school I was able to explore and deeply engage in everything from national rowing competitions, madrigal singing, overseas skiing trips, inter school mathematics meets, fashion parades, school plays and musicals, dances, leadership mentoring, organizational committees, foreign language learning, elite academic opportunities etc."
"It was extraordinary. In terms of the activities and pursuits on offer, I probably tried a majority! As a young woman who was eager to study and gifted in both the sciences and the arts, I'm grateful that I graduated from Somerville with a sense that I could accomplish absolutely anything in my life that I put my mind to; a mindset that not all young women around the world leave school with unfortunately."
"These days, I'm a multidisciplinary creative (actor, singer, writer) who has taken a break from performing to finish writing my first book and raise my two children (one Canadian 3 year old son Wilder Star and one American 5 month old daughter Xyla Ocean) with my Canadian husband Myles in Nashville, Tennessee. Life has been rich, rewarding and completely unpredictable yet with all the world travel and superficially glitzy experiences of my time working in film and television etc, my greatest achievements and gifts will always be my children and my relationships."
"In fact it's the relationships that I have the fondest memories of from Somerville House, simply goofing around at lunchtime with all the young women from my grade wearing those bright, bold uniforms. We laughed so much! My best friend from those days is still my best friend today despite not living in the same country for decades. I'm so grateful that Somerville instilled in me how sacred the relationships are with the special women I have in my life."
