Inaugural 120th Birthday Celebrations a Fantastic Success

A fantastic day was had by all who came to celebrate Somerville House's 120th Birthday!

The 120th Birthday Lunch was a special event for the OGA this year as the first celebration of its kind, and were are grateful for the support of the more than 150 attendees who came to enjoy the occassion.  Guests were greeted in the foyer of the Honour room by glasses of Mumm Champagne and refreshing Fortitude Brewery beer - and a delicious selection of canapes by Alastair McLeod's AlFreshCo Catering.  Somerville Strings provided live entertainment during canape service.

Ladies and gentlemen spilled to the outdoor balcony where they could enjoy a fantastic view of the school while catching up with friends, staff and a number of Old Girls took the opportunity to catch up with other alumni from their cohort. We were so pleased to see some of our favourite ex-somerville staff coming back to support the school including Mrs Davenport, Mrs Valentine, and Mrs McCracken. A Flower wall of greenery with gold lettering to celebrate the school's birthday provided a perfect backdrop for many a photo oppotunity.  Please see our gallery of photos from the day here.

Inside the Honour Room was a gallery of Inspirational Old Girls around the walls and bouquets of green and white flowers adorning each table. Chef Alastair McLeod provided an entertaining start to the lunch with a humourous and poignant tale of his food approach as well as which regional farmers our produce to be enjoyed at lunch had come from.  OGA President Liz Washington gave a warm welcome to all guests and recounted some of the important and inspirational history of the school to provide a platform for later discussion by our panel of guests on the direction of female education.  Gaye Pitman, beloved teacher and Old Girl, had the honours of cutting the celebratory cake and catering staff provided a seamless and professional service to ensure all drinks and meal requirements were met.  We are enormously thankful to our panel of guest speakers (Professor Neva Haites, Leanne Kemp and Erin O'Brien) who provided thought provoking commentary on their experiences as women in the workforce, knowledge on opportunities for women and future directions for women in education.

We are would like to give a huge shout out to the following key sponsors of our event and major raffle prizes!  Scroll down the bottom to see a selection of some fun images from the lunch!
