My name is Abby Green and I graduated in 2017 as Dux of the School. Shortly after graduating, I was approached by Somerville, asking if I would be able to assist in providing private tutoring services to boarders in the Boarding House. I was thrilled about it as I looked forward to being able to use all the experience and knowledge I'd gained in my time at the school to positively influence my younger peers. Initially, I'd viewed the opportunity as an incredibly rewarding part time job, that would be perfect to carry with me throughout my full-time engineering degree at uni. However, the more involved I became in the education industry, the more aware I became of the gap, and therefore opportunity, that lay in being able to provide an accessible, affordable service to students and parents that would allow students to gain confidence in their studies and work their way towards huge improvements and amazing academic results. From this, when I was 18, I started my first Brisbane-based business, Study Monkey Tuition, and then shortly after, purchased a second company, Bright Spark Tutoring, which is Canberra based. Both companies continue to expand rapidly and flourish, having today almost 50 tutors between them after one year, and next year look forward to launching a third, subsidiary company that will focus on e-learning and providing online, revision and support materials to students. I look forward to continue expanding nationally in the near future and establishing a strong foundation throughout Australia, whilst continuing to make a positive impact on students' academic lives.
