Tina Brown (Class of 1993) - Directorial Debut Nominated for a 2020 Emmy

Somerville House recently featured news of Old Girl and acclaimed filmmaker Tina Brown (Class of 1993) returning to Brisbane after thirteen years of living and working in New York City.

Her latest work and directorial debut – the HBO feature-length documentary United Skates (2019), was nominated for a 2020 Emmy Award and toured over 140 film festivals across the globe. The documentary follows a community fighting to save the underground African-American subculture of roller skating, as the last standing roller rinks in the United States are threatened with closure and features interviews with renowned music artists including Salt-N-Pepa, Queen Latifah, and N.W.A.
