Vale - Marjorie (Janet) Ford (Byrnes) (Class of 1949)

We are saddened to hear the news of Janet (known as Marjorie at school) Ford (Byrnes) passing at the age of 89 on 23rd April, 2022. Marjorie commenced at Somerville House in Year 9 in 1946 completing Year 12 in 1949. Marjorie volunteered for playing hymns and received prizes for Mathematics while at school. She was also on the House Committee for Chisolm and a member of the Athletics team. 

Majorie moved to the US around 1968 with then husband, Peter Ford, and remained in the US retiring in Maine. Anita Byrnes (Marj's neice) kindly shared some of Majorie's story with us.  She recalls Marj being one of the first people to study computing in Australia and that she worked in the insurance industry in Boston for many years. She had two sons, Peter and Adam with her son Adam sadly passing away in 2020.
