Old Girl Rebecca Oelkers Announced as new CEO for BHC
Congratulations to Old Girl Rebecca Oelkers who was recently announced on 15th August, 2019 as the new CEO for BHC (formerly Brisbane Housing Company), a leading provider of affordable housing. For the full media statement click here. Rebecca's promotion into this role follows more than 10 years of working for BHC in critical leadership roles including Deputy CEO and Chief Operations Officer and more than 16 years in the industry. Rebecca has been a passionate advocate for affordable housing and a strong supporter of women and diversity in the workplace.
Rebecca's passion for affordable housing is evidened in a recent article penned by Rebecca "Cracking the affordable 'Build to Rent' Nut" in November 2018. "The challenge as I see it is for community organisations, governments and investors to work together to find a way to close this yield gap, crack this nut. We need to unlock the potential of large scale institutional capital for the benefit of those 500,000 mums, dads, kids, people whoever they are - we all know someone and we all know who we are talking about. They deserve the stability and the bedrock of affordable long term accomodation and a place to call home." Full article available here.
"Diversity is incredibly important for Australia and Australian businesses, not just in the development industry but across the board. For our organisations to be competitive worldwide, we need to have diversity and bring more women into these positions of power." This direct quote from Rebecca appeared in the Press Release "Queensland winner in the running for National Women in Leadership Award" . To see the full Press Release please click here. Rebecca was recently the Queensland finalist for the 2019 UDIA and Frasers Property National Women in Leadership Award (won by Tamara Rasmussen of New South Wales). This follows on from Rebecca winning the UDIA Queensland and Frasers Property Women in Leadership Award for Excellence in 2018.
We wish Rebecca the best of success in her new role and look forward to following her success.
