Katie (Katherine) Yapp (Somerville House Old Girl) has recently been announced as one of three finalists of the Freedman Classical Fellowship for 2019. A concert will be held on Sunday 20th October, 2019 at the Sydney Opera House where the three finalists will battle it out to take out the coveted fellowship. There will also be a special guest appearance from internationally renouwned Guitarist (Karen Shaupp) the 2002 recipient of the Fellowship Fellow.
Katie grew up playing piano and violin and progressed to the Viola while studying Bachelor of Music at the University of Queensland. She is violist in the Chrysalis Harp Trio, early music chamber groups Ironwood Ensemble, and the Muses' Delight and joined the Australian String Quartet in 2016. Katie will compete live in concert against two double bassist (Johnathon Heilbron and Rohan Dasika) for the title of The Music Trust 2019 Freedman Classical Fellow, The winner will take away $20,000 prize to assist them in progressing their career.
