We are saddened to hear of the passing of Old Girl Elizabeth (Ann) Penfold (Trewern) (Class of 1952) 11th June 1934 - 28th August, 2020.
Ann devoted a number of years to the OGA and we are extremely thankful for her support. She helped organise some of the "famous" bus trips and other functions. The function best remembered by her daughter, Helen Claes, was "Around the World with Tea and Coffee". Helen was a Somerville House student at the time. It was held in Harker Hall, which was off-limits to students on that day. Her memory of it was that each participant received a glass cup and saucer on arrival and then moved about the various "countries" set up around the Hall, tasting the tea/coffee and food treats. The cup and saucer was a souvenir of the event. Ann regularly attended "Commem" day and Helen enjoyed meeting her in the courtyard afterwards. Many of her friends would enthusiastically comment to Helen that "...you look just like your mother". This was not what most (self-absorbed) teenagers wished to hear! Helen also remembers her mum attending many OGA meetings and the fulfillment she derived from her time serving on the committee.
We pass on our heartfelt condolences to Ann's three daughters (Helen Claes (Penfold) (Class of 1980), Fiona Penfold (Class of 1978), Janet Cashin (Penfold) (Class of 1976) and son David Penfold. Please feel free to share your memories of Ann in the "comments" section here or by email (firstname.lastname@example.org) and we will be sure to pass these on to the family.
